JULY 28, 2018
There are a variety of encounters and life stories that are remarkable and that we keep in mind for a long time. Mostly these are life stories of those people who are particularly challenged by life. And sometimes you meet people who do not only get you to think and reflect, they also activated a feeling which tells you to become active and to make a contribution in any way. A contribution that you make together with other people to help set the wind under the wings of those who have to shoulder this challenge so that they can best be carried through their situation. For OnlineLessons.tv, such an encounter led to the “Aktion Luftsprung” (transl. “action group air jump”), which has set itself the goal of promoting the inclusion of chronically ill young people and helping them to enter the world of work.
It started like this: Florian Alexandru-Zorn and Ulrich Hartmann got to know each other while studying drums at the music college in Mannheim, Germany. Ulrich was diagnosed with cystic fibrosis (mucoviscidosis) at an early age. The illness was not a topic in the beginning but it came up during the study, as Ulrich had to pause again and again due to his illness. A difficult situation – for him, who was at the beginning of his professional career, but also for his lecturers who were confronted with a new situation. And for Florian as a fellow student, it was quite memorable what kind of reactions this provoked among teachers and other fellow students. The daily education routine seemed to be little adaptable to the needs of a chronic disease and created challenges on both sides.
Inclusion and its hurdles…
Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for chronically ill people to experience many disadvantages in everyday life and in work life. In particular, it also affects young people who are at the beginning of their careers and are deciding where to go for work. Employees often no longer focus on the individual’s talenta, but rather on the illness.
This creates a certain kind of bias. But even chronically ill persons can be equipped with motivation and motivation, like everyone else and make their significant contribution to work life. But the inclusion meets some hurdles here.
That’s why Ulrich commited himself to the “Aktion Luftsprung” with his own experience and insights, working with his foundation collegues and foundation’s originator Volker Potthoff to overcome these hurdles and work out solution concepts with politics and economy leaders. Of course, the commitment goes far beyond working life. It is about supporting affected families holistically. Auxiliary requests, funding guidelines and first emergency aid are components of the work of the “action air jump”.
luftsprung live – music is fo everyone…
And the topic of music also plays a big role. Musical talent has no limits and limitations and should be encouraged in any case.
That’s why we at OnineLessons.tv have partnered with the “aktion luftsprungt”, too and support in particular the project “luftsprung live“, in which young musicians suffering from a chronic disease are supported in the next step of their musical development.
The project was developed by the foundation’s management together with students of the Pop Academy Mannheim. The young talents who are part of the project have access to continuing education opportunities, seminars, sample rehearsals for concerts and band coaching by experienced Pop Academy musicians. In addition, special concerts for the “luftsprung live” bands are organized, and arrangements especially for the bands are created by professional pop music arrangers.
OnlineLessons.tv offers all participants of the project and the foundation members free and unrestricted access to the educational content of the OnlineLessons.tv platform and, together with Ulrich Hartmann, develops new course material. In this way, we offer young music enthusiasts the opportunity to continue their education and give them the flexibility to following their own schedule, as the course material is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
We are proud companions…
We are grateful to be a companion of the “aktion luftsprung“. We would like to help bringing attention to the importance of music and what is means to all people and how important it is to give everyone access to musical education. Therefore, finally, a quote from the press release of the foundation’s originator Volker Potthoff, who brings it in our opinion, in a nutshell: “Making music together has the power to release hidden energies and to put physical deficits and limitations into the background. We at “aktion luftsprung” want to use this power to make the passion, joie de vivre and the creative potential of health-impaired young people audible and noticeable for everyone “.
