Expand your jazz vocabulary with John Riley’s challenging ideas about comping.
Comping is a mixture of the expressions “to accompany” and “to complement”. In Jazz Drumming comping describes the rhythms drummers add to the swing pattern in order to support melody lines or improvised solos.
In this course you learn how to incorporate the snare drum, the bass drum and the hi-hat at both the 8th note rate and the triplet rate. With John Riley’s challenging ideas you really enrich your jazz vocabulary.

Lifetime work in 43 minutes !
Once again a perfect summary of what is needed to become a better Jazz drummer – but don’t be fooled by Master Riley’s talent and humility : there’s a lifetime work (and joy !) ahead of you to master those apparently simple ideas and all combinations (or at least those most musicaly close to your own style ;)).
Thank you for all this.
Fine lessons!
Thank you very much Mr. Riley for your clear and straightforward explanation!
